Microsoft has released an Anti virus Software and it’s free! It is quite a news to the techno-concerned people – both for Microsoft Lovers and Anti-Microsoftist!!! . First, Microsoft has released the Anti virus, which is the first anti virus release by this software corporation. The people who are just happy to always have Microsoft products- free or not, will say that, Microsoft understand the Windows Operating system better that any one else. So the Anti virus released by the Microsoft will definitely be more effective and efficient that any other anti virus. Let’s hope that those Microsoft lovers are right this time. The need for a reliable anti virus that will work on viruses, worms and other malicious coding and in the mean time will not slow down the performance of the computer is felt by all. People seem to switch over different anti viruses so frequently and either complain that, it can’t detect all the viruses or it’s slowing sown my PC. So we were expecting that Microsoft will come as an Olympian Hero in the near future. Let’s hope for the best. It seems like, Microsoft has gone one step further- by offering the Anti virus for free.
The techno-people and basic computer & internet users who always speak against Microsoft are arguing that, it’s another Huge-name-zero-came product. They think that the free anti viruses, those are already in market and available for free download, are just fine. They are even questioning: “why Microsoft came at the competition at a last moment”. They even shown doubt whether it’ll be free or not later if it gains popularity. Some of them are even questioning the reliability of MORRO, which is the earlier release of the present version. No blame for them- they are quite correct in a sense.

Amy Barzdukas, general manager for consumer security at Microsoft, in a statement said that : ” This anti virus is not looking to compete with commercial makers of software, such as Symantec and McAfee, but rather to encourage broader adoption of anti-virus protection across the consumer audience.”
Other giant anti virus corporation have already announced that, the new Microsoft Security Essentials will not affect their market.
Let’s wait and see. If you are planning to download and and have a hit on this Security Essential, download it and test it on your Windows XP (Service Packs 2 or 3), Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating System.
From Microsoft, it’s been announced that : “Microsoft Security Essentials uses real-time protection to help prevent PCs from becoming infected, and it is the first Microsoft security product to make use of the company’s new Dynamic Signature Service, a technology that helps ensure users stay protected by the most current virus definitions available without having to wait for the next scheduled download”. Sound real promising but the user will wait to see further. They are not satisfied what’s been said about a software but the features and flexibility it offers. In case of an Anti virus, this is inevitable.
Good news is that, So far, Security Essentials has received positive reviews. Anti-virus testing company AV-Test GmbH used the beta version of Security Essentials and told Computerworld magazine that “All (viruses) were properly detected and treated by the product. That’s good, as several other (anti-virus) scanners are still not able to detect and kill all of these critters yet.”
For those, who want to test the Anti virus, should follow the general rule of using any anti virus, i.e: they should not use the Microsoft Security Essential with other existing anti virus as having more than one anti-virus program on a single computer can cause software conflicts and other problems. So they should first uninstall any existing anti virus in their PC and then install Microsoft Security Essential.
Microsoft said ” it will automatically be updated daily as it checks for viruses, spyware and other malicious software, and had been designed to run quietly in the background of the Operating System , alerting users only when there is an action for them to take. It also limits CPU and memory usage.”

The download size is only 11.3 MB, which is a good news for dial-up internet users.
The point that ” Microsoft Security Essentials is meant to replaces Windows Live OneCare, a commercial subscription-based anti virus service and the free Windows Defender, which only protected users from adware and spyware, and was not accepted wisely by the techno persons” is true even if Microsoft say otherwise. The thing is that, Security Essential has got positive reviews so far.
Microsoft released the beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0; on 19 July 2010, which we are talking about . New features in this beta release are : Enhanced protection for web-based threats, Firewall integration, New protection engine and Network inspection system.
