Which are emerging countries that hold the most potential for online growth?
There is an interesting report by A.T. Kearney’s E-Commerce Index that examines the top 30 countries in their 2012 Global Retail Development Index (GRDI). Using 18 infrastructure, regulatory, and retail-specific variables, the index ranks the top 10 countries by their e-commerce potential and provides a trend for the 5 years. The findings provide a wealth of information for retailers’ use in developing successful global e-commerce strategies.
In particular, in the image below, we can see in the top 5 countries, after China, Brazil and Russia (BRIC), two new potential insiders, even though less known, from Latin America: Chile and Mexico.
With a 78 percent annual growth rate since 2006, China’s online retail market is expected to explode, reaching $81 billion over the next five years.
